My Story

Joseph J. Hajjar is a seasoned entrepreneur, a philanthropist, an activist, and a nature junky born and raised in Brooklyn, New York.

The last time Joe called anyone "boss," he was 22 years old and the job only lasted 10 months. In 1973 he founded, owned, and operated A-Tex Pools Inc., a retail swimming pool business that grew to include five stores plotted throughout Austin and San Antonio, Texas. In 2000 he sold his company and became semi-retired at the age of 46.

In the last sixteen years, Joe has pursued a passion for travel and new real estate ventures. A true cosmopolitan, he is inspired to bridge cultural divides and will often say that he has never met a stranger. With a vast network of family, friends, and colleagues he has developed a talent for making those around him feel at ease.

Joe has managed to pass along his independent spirit and business savvy to not only his three sons but other young people as well. He is a mentor to elementary school students, teaching them the benefits of free enterprise with Junior Achievement Austin. He also holds a Lifetime Texas Teaching Certificate to teach business and history.

A first-generation American from Syrian parents with six children, Joe credits his mother’s unwavering hospitality and generosity for his commitment to community outreach. To this day she is one of the biggest influences in his life.

Joe earned his BA in Marketing from St. Edwards University in 1971. He currently resides in Austin, Texas.
