My Story

Dr. Klyne Smith began his career of service in high school by mentoring and leading his church youth group. During Dr. Smith’s working career, he remained focused on community service by working as a basketball coach, academic mentor, Junior League advisor, Boys and Girls Club Board member, YMCA Board member, and the Kappa Alpha Psi Guide Right Foundation Board member.

Dr. Smith joined Education Unbound in furtherance of his primary passion of service. Dr. Smith has dedicated over 30 years to helping students fulfill their highest potential when transitioning from high school to college by focusing on the college application process.  Through its ‘College Bound’ initiative, Education Unbound provides additional resources in the form of people, processes, and funding to reach often under-resourced students as they begin to navigate the college application process. Along with Education Unbound, Dr. Smith works with many other non-profit organizations mentoring students and young adults, STEM training, and life coaching.

 

 

Dr. Smith spent almost 30 years working in corporate America as a software solution expert with IBM, Alcatel-Lucent (Nokia), Ericsson, Harrah’s (Caesars Entertainment), and several start-up companies. Dr. Smith delivered technical solutions in over 20 countries and traveled to more than 50 countries. Dr. Smith left corporate America to pursue his own Executive Project Management Consulting company.

Dr. Smith completed his Doctor of Engineering in Software Engineering from Southern Methodist University. He also holds a BS in Computer Science / Mathematics from Xavier University, an MS in Management of Information Systems from George Washington University, and an MBA from Christian Brothers University.

​

 

In addition to running his own company, Dr. Smith is teaching Computer Science and Engineering courses at the University of Texas at Dallas and Southern Methodist University.  

​

 

Klyne has been married for 30 years and has 2 sons (College Sophomore, College Freshman).
